Calling All Volunteers!

We are four weeks away and have had over 70 plus volunteers working on this project - but now we need "women power" for some smaller projects.

Specificially, if you are or know someone who is a florist or can get us bulk discounts, please contact us.

Also, we will be having a "Volunteer Work Party" on Wednesday, September 24th at the KAO Chapter House at 6pm.

We need people to help with stuffing of programs, nametags, place settings and much more!

If you are interested and able to help out in any way, please contact us at uwthetacentennial@gmail.com

Football Game on Saturday, September 27

Hello All!

We know many of you are wondering about the festivities for Saturday, September 27 and the answer is - we are still working on it!

With shifting game schedules (it currently now reads that game time is 7:00pm) and venue restrictions, it looks like this day will be much more organic than the rest of the formal events.

We are organizing with the University to have a block of seats and we will make the official announcement on Monday, August 25th on how to acquire those tickets.

In the meantime, please direct any football game day related questions to Shary Cahill, Co-Chair of the UW Theta Centennial at shary.cahill@gmail.com

Thanks and see you next month!

FAQs about UW Theta Centennial Celebration

Pledge Class vs. Initiation Year Debate? Which method are you using for organizing the events?

From 1908-1990, all Theta pledge classes were initiated in winter quarter of their freshmen year. (Ex: freshman in 1985 is part of the 1986 Theta Initiation Class).

From 1991-present day, all Theta pledge classes were initiated in fall quarter of their freshmen year. (Ex: freshman in 1999, is part of the 1999 theta Initiation Class).

We recognize that the “pledge class” term generally refers to the year that the theta class started school, and is a popular format of theta class identity.

Unfortunately, Kappa Alpha Theta headquarters organizes all directories, materials, & mailings by your INITIATION YEAR. The master list is organized by initiation year, and we don’t want to create more confusion than necessary.

Therefore, for all 100th anniversary communications, you are organized by your INITIATION year.

Who is my class coordinator?
Please contact the Class Coordinator Chair – Jenny Kincaid (jkincaid@4pace.com) and she will let you know who is in charge of rallying your class!

Do you really think we can get 750 Thetas to the event?

We definitely can! Over 2200 women have passed through the UW Theta house and we think 750 is a reasonable goal. With our wonderful class coordinators organizing and rallying their individual classes and other various theta supporters in the community, we know this event will be a success!

Why are you having an event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Kappa Alpha Theta at UW?

The UW Theta Centennial Celebration & Reunion will reinforce the fact that:
· Kappa Alpha Theta at University of Washington is celebrating 100 years of the Leadership, Values, and Friendship and support and vision of our alumnae’s leaders – vital to our past success and critical for future generations
· The community as a whole is a better place because over the last 100 years, countless thousands of young women experienced the Theta lifestyle and to learn positive core values together
· Kappa Alpha Theta is an extraordinary place where diverse women of our community come together and break down barriers
· Sisterhood – Sense of Community and rich network of women

Is this a fundraiser? Are you going ask to me to make a donation?

No – this event is strictly focused on the amazing women of Kappa Alpha Theta and is considered a reunion and celebration!

Can I stay at the UW Theta Chapter House?
Unfortunately, the chapter house is not able to accommodate overnight guests. We encourage you to stay with friends and family in the area.

What two Theta women are crazy enough to co-chair this event?
Yes, at times we question our sanity, but so far we are having a blast! Shary Smith Cahill ’74 and Meghan Wagner ’99 have taken on the fun task of organizing this event. We are so grateful for all the help from everyone who have stepped up in the areas of history & memorabilia, event logistics, communications, and alumnae outreach. We look forward to having an incredible event filled with laughter, memories, love and maybe, a couple of tears! When not planning the 100th anniversary you can find Shary and Meghan working full-time jobs, spending time with family and friends and having no free time! Please contact them if you have any questions at uwthetacentennial@gmail.com .
